Machu Picchu re-opened to the public!

Dear All,

Some great news!

Over this last weekend, Machu Picchu re-opened to the public. Whilst the “official” re-opening is not scheduled until Wednesday, 15th of February, a few lucky tourists who had made it to Machu Picchu town, managed to get in for a sneak preview and were rewarded for their patience, with a unique and utterly exclusive "pre-opening".

Will that make the international headlines? Who knows?!

Also, probably not in any international news today:

• Both Perurail and Inca rail have announced their trains Ollantaytambo - Machu Picchu and Machu Picchu - Hidro-Electrica have resumed, albeit at a reduced frequency. Perurail plans to be running all its services normally by Monday 20th February.

• Cusco and the Sacred Valley are fully open, as is Lima, the Coastal regions, Northern Peru, Arequipa, and the Colca canyon.

• Juliaca airport is still closed, and Arequipa airport is open only during daylight hours (as the protestors smashed the landing lights up)

• There is still the odd roadblock between Puno and Cusco (near Sicuani), Arequipa and Cusco (also near Sicuani) and the road between Cusco to Puerto Maldonado, whilst currently open, could close anytime soon, so making overland travel between these locations, is best avoided for now.

As usual, we will try and keep you updated with our BLOG as news comes in.

We are confident this marks the start of a return to yet another “new normal” but, when planning trips to Peru, we are encouraging adding an extra day into any itinerary, just in case.

Inca Trail permits are still available for nearly every day from 01 March onwards, although April and May are starting to sell out fast.

2023 just might be the perfect year to visit Peru, after all. Why not experience our beautiful Machu Picchu and Galapagos Tour?

We are looking forward to receiving our first clients here very shortly, and to a great 2023 season there onwards.

Do contact us at maite@touringgalapagos.com for any Peru enquiries.

All the very best,

Maite & Mike
