The Galapagos will be the first Ecuadorian province, and first archipelago in all of Latin America, to be fully vaccinated by the end of May 2021. Galapagos will become The Safest Place on Earth! All inhabitants 18 years old and older will be able to receive both doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine by the time the current president of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, leaves office toward the end of May. Pfizer has fast-tracked a shipment of 40,000 doses to the Galapagos Islands, ensuring that all of the adults living in the archipelago can be vaccinated over the next five weeks.

Ecuador has administered at least 732,717 doses of COVID vaccines so far. Assuming every person needs 2 doses, that’s enough to have vaccinated about 2.1% of the country’s population. Accelerating the Galapagos Islands to 100% of all adults by the end of May is very important for tourism and for protecting the local population working with tourists.
