The Galapagos National Park Authority and the Minister of Tourism, Niels Olsen, are leading this effort, with the changes taking effect on August 1, 2024. This update, the initial one in more than 26 years, demonstrates Ecuador's commitment to protecting the islands' distinct ecosystem, guaranteeing its conservation for the benefit and enlightenment of upcoming generations.

Adjusting the entrance fees is a crucial step in finding a balance between tourism's economic advantages and environmental conservation's essential goal. The fees collected will go towards supporting conservation projects, improving infrastructure, and implementing community initiatives to minimize the impact of tourism on the islands. Enhancements will be made to sewage systems, waste management, and medical facilities to improve environmental resilience and the health of the island's residents and tourists.
